DEADLINE IS SUNDAY AT NOON FOR EACH WEEK
PICK-UPS, APPOINTMENTS AND VACATIONS:
If you are making alternative arrangements for your child after school, I will need a written note in the agenda letting me know of the change. Please call the office to notify them of the change as well. Verbal instructions from the student (or sibling, family friend, etc.) are not sufficient. If you plan on entering the school at any time (before, during or after school hours), you are asked to please check in at the office with our secretary. If you are coming to pick up your child, the secretary will contact me and I will send him/her down to the office to meet you. If you are picking your child up after school, you are asked to please use the bus or the kiss and ride only. The school is really trying to eliminate parking/crossing the street as we have had many complaints from our neighbours regarding after school chaos. Thank you for your help in making our school a safe place for our students.
If students are absent, they are responsible for contacting their assigned study buddy to catch up on any work missed. Should your child be missing school for an extended period of time (e.g. vacation) a note must be submitted to the office a minimum of 5 days prior to the absence.
MORNING BELL:
The morning bell rings for school to begin at 8:55 am. If you drive your child to school or happen to drop your child off at school one day, please give yourself enough time to have them at school by this time (the parking lot can be busy!). Children will be supervised outside in the yard as of 8:40am and cannot be dropped off prior to this time. Attendance is taken promptly at 9:00am and students who are even 5 minutes late fall behind in morning routines and class instructions.
HEALTHY SNACKs:
It is very important that students come to school with nutritious food. Children, particularly growing adolescents, need energy from healthy, complex carbohydrates/foods such as fruits and veggies to power their brain and fuel them for the day. In 7/8, students are able to eat at any time, provided they are not disrupting the class. Please ensure that all snacks are nut-free, not just peanut-free.
ELECTRONICS:
Throughout this school year there will be opportunities for students to use their Personal Electronic Devices (PED) in class according to the LDCSB PED policy. PEDs include, but are not limited to iPods, iPads, cell phones, tablets and computers. The activities associated with the use of the PED are solely for educational purposes. If your child does not have a PED, or you do not wish to send it to school, he/she can use wireless devices that have been purchased by the school.
We understand that these devices are costly and safety is a potential concern. Therefore, we are asking that if you give permission for your child to bring his/her PED to school you understand that they will be assuming all responsibility for the device. Please see the technology permission form sent home for more information and return the form to school by Friday, September 7th..
During the day, students are expected to store their PED in the numbered organizer which is located behind the teacher’s desk. Students may not store devices in their pockets or backpacks during the school day.
PERSONAL ITEMS
Outdoor equipment, such as balls, skipping ropes, etc. are permitted at school. Students must be responsible for their items and all items should be labelled with the student's name. Students are asked to remember that the safety of our students is a top priority, and teachers reserve the right to ask students to put items away should they be placing themselves or other (much smaller) students in harms way.
BIRTHDAYS
In keeping with the Healthy Schools Initiative, we are no longer able to distribute sugary treats or unhealthy snacks such as cupcakes or cake. We understand how much time would go into baking these treats for the class and would hate to have to send them back home. Thank you!
